The very best accessory for summer. . .

Hello Readers!

Yesterday was the first day of summer. It didn't feel like summer. . . until I stepped outside into the heat and humidity that I instantly recognized as the St. Louis summer. Yep, it's back- bring out your linen skirts and shorts, paint your toenails, and don't forget to wear sunscreen!

By now, you are probably wondering "Laura, what is this very best summer accessory that you speak of?" Well, this accessory is the perfect companion for nearly every summer endeavor, as we venture into vacations, muster the discipline to stay inside at work, and catch the occasion rays of sunshine by the pool- a book!

This could be a novel, a biography, a book you've been meaning to read, a book you've already read- just pick up a book and READ. Engage your mind, gain fresh perspectives, learn something new!

In the photo below, I am holding one of my favorite "academic" books, Speaking Into the Air: A History of the Idea of Communication by John Durham Peters. My "summer accessory," however, is What Americans Really Believe by Rodney Stark. More details about my outfit are below:

John Durham Peters Book: The University of Chicago Press
Off-White V-Neck shirt and Teal Lace-Trim tank top: American Eagle Outfitters (last season)
Charcoal Embroidered Skirt: American Eagle Outfitters (this season)
Brown Flip Flops: Reef

This outfit is perfect for a summer day. . . a breezy skirt, knit cotton shirts, flip flops, and a summer read! This outfit could go to the park, family gatherings, a corner cafe. . . you get the picture.

OK Readers, remember to read, reapply sunscreen, and rehydrate on a regular basis!
